FOY, ALVAREZ, ALLISON, KEITH HONORED
AT FURMAN MEN'S SPORTS BANQUET

GREENVILLE -- Furman University's men's soccer program took home three of four major awards presented Tuesday night at the school¹s annual men's sports banquet held on campus.

Senior forward Andy Foy from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., earned the Academic Achievement Award, and teammate, senior midfielder Daniel Alvarez from Fayetteville, N.C., received the Student-Athlete Achievement Award. A first team All-America selection, Alvarez led the nation in assists, helping the Paladins a school best 21-2 record, No. 3 final national ranking, and NCAA Tournament quarterfinal finish. Soccer coach Doug Allison, meanwhile, was presented the J. Lyles Alley Coach-of-the-Year Award for the second consecutive year. Allison currently ranks as the nation¹s second winningest coach among Division I coaches with at least five years of experience.

Consensus All-American football player John Keith from Newnan, Ga., took home the Male Athlete-of-the-Year after totaling 132 tackles and leading Furman to a 9-3 record, Southern Conference championship, and appearance in the NCAA I-AA playoffs. Keith was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of last month's NFL Draft.
