GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman men's soccer coach Doug Allison announced his 1999 freshman class on Thursday. The Paladins will welcome six prepsters to the mix, including two each from Texas and Oklahoma.
Will Chaple, a goalkeeper from Conyers, Ga., is the goalkeeper on the Georgia Olympic Development Program (ODP) State Team and was a member of the Region III team in 1996. He joins sophomore Scott Blount as the Paladins' only two goalkeepers.
Anthony Esquivel, a forward from San Antonio, Texas, is a three year member of the South Texas State Team and is also known for his starring role in the Disney soccer classic The Big Green.
Matt Foxhall, a midfielder also from San Antonio, Texas, is an ODP state pool member for South Texas.
Clint Hill, a forward from Tulsa, Okla., is a member of both the Oklahoma State ODP team and the Region III ODP team. Hill will also be a member of the Paladin baseball team.
Jody Keeling, a forward from New Port Richey, Fla., is originally from England, but has been in Florida for three seasons. He was a 1998 Florida all-state selection.
John Michael Waite, a midfielder from Tulsa, Okla., is a member of the Region III ODP Team.
"I am really excited about this class," said Allison. "This class will fill some definite needs for us and will greatly improve our overall talent level."
Furman won the 1998 Southern Conference Regular Season title and finished the season with a 16-4-2 record after being ranked in the nation's top 20 for most of the season.
