GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman defender Matt Goldsmith was selected as an honorable mention All-American by College Soccer Weekly this week. He is one of only six freshman to be named to either the first, second, third, or honorable mention teams.
Goldsmith (Roswell, Ga.) had a stellar freshman year as he anchored Furman's 12th-ranked defense and guided the Paladins to a 16-4-2 record and its 13th Southern Conference Championship since 1983.
In addition to this, his first national recognition of the season, Goldsmith was previously selected as Southern Conference Freshman-of-the-Year and as a first team All-Southern Conference selection. He scored two goals, both game-winners, while recording three assists on the season for 7 points.
Goldsmith is a member of the U.S. Under 20 National Team and is currently in Chula Vista, Calif. at training camp for the national team. He was also a two time Parade All-American while at Roswell High School.
