GREENVILLE, SC -- The 17th ranked Furman men's soccer team improved it's record to 7-0-1 as the Paladins rolled past visiting Georgia State 5-0 Saturday afternoon at Eugene Stone Stadium.
Furman, who is off it its best start in its 32 year history was led by junior Geno Mayes who scored the first two Paladin goals in the first half. The first goal came at the 25:16 mark as John Barry Nusum passed a reflected shot to Mayes for the goal. Shaun Stone and Daniel Alvarez were credited with assists on MayesÕ second goal, just two minutes after his first.
John Barry Nusum, Shaun Stone, and Sean Nickerson each recorded goals in the second half.
"It's nice to keep the momentum going," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "This was another good win and we just hope to continue to play well as the season progresses."
With the loss Georgia State drops to 2-4 on the season. With its 8-0-1 record, the Paladins are currently on the longest unbeaten streak in its 32 year history.
Furman will face one of its most critical weeks this week. The Paladins host 20th ranked UNC Charlotte Wednesday and travel to Columbia to face the seventh ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday.
