GREENVILLE, SC -- Senior defender Pete Santora was named first team All-South Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Umbro, while three other Paladins were selected to the second and third teams.
Goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale was a second team selection after leading the South Region with a 0.77 Goals Against Average. Pascale recorded 51 saves and allowed only 11 goals in 1290 minutes of action. In addition, Pascale recorded 8 shutouts on the season. Joining Pascale on the second team was sophomore defender Peter Slobodyan. Slobodyan helped anchor a stingy Paladin defense this season.
Midfielder Daniel Alvarez was selected as a member of the third team. Alvarez, who tied for the team lead in scoring recorded four goals and ten assists for 18 points on the year. All four of Alvarez' goals were game-winners.
Santora is a three-time All South Region selection and is a two-time first team selection. Along with leading Furman's defense, Sanora tied for the team lead in points with seven goals and four assists. Santora was a 1996 NSCAA/Umbro First Team All American.
Furman's four selections on the three teams tied Duke for the most in the region. Conference rivals UNC Greensboro and Georgia Southern each garnered two selections, while South Carolina earned three selections and Clemson two.
