Santora, Sutton Honored as SoCon Player-of-the-Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman swept the Southern Conference soccer Player-of-the-Week honors as senior Pete Santora and sophomore Melissa Sutton were honored as men's and women's players-of-the-week Tuesday.

Pete Santora is the Paladins' (8-3) leading scorer while playing the sweeper position. Santora recorded two goals in Furman's 3-0 victory over Vanderbilt last week. Pete has recorded six goals and two assists this season, including three game-winning goals to spark the Paladins.

"Pete played solid in both of our matches last week," Furman head coach Doug Allison said. "As an attacking sweeper, he is able to both provide us with a scoring punch and control our defense."

Lady Paladin standout Melissa Sutton was honored after scoring goals in each of Furman's three matches last week. Sutton also nailed the game-winning goal against Jacksonville, her fourth game-winner of the season. Sutton is the Lady Paladins' (9-5-1) leading scorer with seven goals and six assists and has recorded a goal or an assist in each of Furman's last six matches.

"Melissa continues to play superb up front," said Lady Paladin head coach Brian Lee. "She has been a steady goal-scoring force all year and is a threat to score every time she touches the ball."
