PERRI FIRES FIRST-ROUND 75 AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

SUNRIVER, Oregon -- Furman sophomore Jennifer Perri (Eden Prairie, Minn.) fired a three-over 75 in the first round of the NCAA Championships Wednesday on the Crosscreek Course at Sunriver.

Perri had a relatively uneventful round, bogeying the par four first hole, the par three seventh hole, and the par three 13th, with pars on the other 15 holes. She also had an important up and down on the 18th, putting from off the green to within two feet of the hole to remain three over.

"I definitely feel like I can post a really low score out here," said Perri. "I am hitting the ball well and my putting stroke is starting to feel great. I am hitting lots of wedges into the greens, so maybe tomorrow I can make a move. The length of this course is a real advantage for me, especially since today I was keeping my driver and irons in the fairway."

Perri is the first Furman golfer to compete at the NCAA Championships as an individual since Vicki Suhocki placed 30th at the 1991 National Championship in Columbus, Ohio. The Furman team has advanced to the NCAAs every year since Suhocki's trip, with the exceptions of 1998 and 2000.
