FURMAN LADY PALADINS MOVE INTO 14th
WITH SECOND ROUND 299

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Furman’s Lady Paladin golf team used an 18 stroke improvement from round one of the NCAA East Regional at the Scarlett Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio, to move from 20th into a tie for 14th in the team standings with a 616 two-day total. The Lady Paladins need to move into the top 11 in Saturday’s final round to advance to the program’s 14th NCAA Championship since 1983. Furman currently sits three strokes out of 11th place.

Sophomore Jennifer Perri paced the team with a one-over 73, carding just two birdies despite a number of opportunities. Freshman Brandi Jackson started the round strong , making the turn at two-under before giving up three bogeys and a double on the final nine to fire a 75 and move into 55th individually. Senior Stacey Burnett recorded two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine (Furman’s front) to turn at even par, and birdied holes two and three (her 11th and 12th) to move to two-under before giving up five strokes over the final five holes to shoot 75. Finally, freshman Cimmie Shahan followed up a first-round 78 with a 76 on Friday and is in 46th with a 154. Tara Schultz, the team’s non-counter, fired an 81.

“I would feel pretty good about our round,” said head coach Mic Potter, “if only we hadn’t given up so many shots over the last five holes.” As a team Furman was even after 13 holes, only to shoot an 11-over 299.
