FURMAN 11TH AT LADY GAMECOCK CLASSIC

BLYTHEWOOD, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin golf team fired a first-round 328, 40 strokes over par, and is in last place at the Lady Gamecock Classic.

The reigning National Champion Duke Blue Devils are in the lead after a first-round 309, but scores were high all around as not one member of the 63-person field shot par or better.

Senior Stacey Burnett led the Furman effort with a first-round 78, while sophomore Jennifer Perri carded an 82 and is in 38th individually. Tara Schultz and Brandi Jackson each fired an 84 and are tied for 50th, while freshman Cimmie Shahan carded an 87 for 61st place.

North Carolina's Marcy Newton and LSU's Lisette Lee are tied atop the leaderboard at 73, while Tennessee's Young A Yang and Duke's Kalen Anderson sit in third with a 74.

Round two of the Lady Gamecock is slated for Saturday with the final round completing Sunday, at the 5,996-yard, par 72, University Club.
