FURMAN SWEEPS SOCON GOLF HONORS


GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- In addition to winning the Southern Conference women’s golf team and individual championships, Furman swept the league’s annual awards with Sarah Johnston earning Player of the Year, Jenny Suh taking Freshman of the Year, and Mic Potter earning Coach of the Year.

Johnston posted a 74.2 season stroke average to lead the league in 2004, while Suh ranked second at 74.4. Johnston has played in every tournament for the Lady Paladins this season and her score has counted in all 27 rounds, while Suh’s score has counted in 26 of 27 rounds for a 96.3% mark. In addition, Johnston has recorded par or better on eight occasions, with Suh coming in at or below even on seven occasions.

In addition to earning Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year Johnston and Suh were named to the league's first-team all-conference squad. Also, freshman Theresa Paik and sophomore Connor Atkinson were named second team all-league.

The victory in the Southern Conference Championships secured for the 24th-ranked Lady Paladins an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals, May 6-8. The Lady Paladins will find out today (Monday) at 2:00 p.m. which regional they will be attending.
