LADY PALADIN GOLFERS ATOP SOCON;
JOHNSTON HOLDS INDIVIDUAL LEAD


GREENSBORO, South Carolina -- The 24th-ranked Furman women’s golf team is in the lead at the Southern Conference after shooting a first round 297. In addition, senior Sarah Johnston has a two shot lead in the individual standings, following a round one 71 at the 6,162-yard, par 71 Starmount Country Club.

Furman enters the second of three rounds with a seven stroke lead over defending champion Western Carolina and an 18-stroke cushion over host UNC Greensboro. In addition to Johnston’s 71 on Friday, Furman counted a 73 by freshman Jenny Suh, a 74 by freshman Theresa Paik, and a 79 by senior Tiarna Harman. Sophomore Haley Gildea was the non-counter on the day after an 80.

Johnston begins round two with a two-stroke advantage over teammate Jenny Suh and Elon’s Sammy Sue Wilson, and a three stroke lead over teammate Theresa Paik and Western Carolina’s Brandy Andersen.
