FURMAN’S SUH PACES LADY PALADINS TO SECOND ROUND 300


HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Florida -- Furman freshman Jenny Suh carded a two-under 70 to pace the Lady Paladins to a second round 300 and move into eighth place in the NCAA East Regional. Furman is at 612 entering the third and final round of the qualifier, four strokes out of seventh and one stroke ahead of ninth, an important position since the top eight teams after Saturday’s final round advance to the National Championship, May 18-21, in Auburn, Ala.

Suh recorded four birdies and two bogeys at the 6,165-yard, par 72 El Campeon Golf Course on Friday, keying the Lady Paladins’ move up the leaderboard from 13th into eighth, one stroke ahead of Tennessee and two better than NCAA Championships host Auburn. Individually, Suh is currently tied for fourth at 145, five strokes off the lead pace of Meaghan Francella.

Senior Sarah Johnston also contributed to Furman’s move up the standings. Johnston fired an even par 72 and is tied for 25th at 152. Theresa Paik, a freshman from Silver Spring, Md., shot 76 and is tied for 43rd at 155, while freshman Monique Gesualdi rounded out the Lady Paladin scorers with an 82. Sophomore Connor Atkinson was the Furman non-counter with a second round 83.

The third and final round of the NCAA East Regional is set for Saturday. Furman begins teeing off at 9 a.m. and will be paired with Tennessee and Florida State.As a team, the Lady Paladins have not made the NCAA Championship finals since 1999.
