FURMAN GOLFERS FIRE FINAL ROUND 297; SUH, PAIK LEAD WAY

AUBURN, Alabama -- Freshman Theresa Paik chose the final round of the NCAA Championships for the first sub-par round of her collegiate career, and fellow freshman Jenny Suh carded an even-par 72 to lead the Lady Paladins to a 297 Friday at the Grand National Lake Course in Auburn, Ala. The Lady Paladin team earned a tie for 15th in the championship, with a four-round 1197 tally.

Paik started the day with a bogey at the par four first hole, but evened her round with a birdie on the ninth. On the backside, Paik went to two-under with an eagle three on the par five 12th, gave back a stroke with a bogey on 16, then finished her round with a birdie on 18 for a two-under 70. Suh, meanwhile, struggled on the front side and was four over at the turn, but made four birdies on five backside holes to shoot a third consecutive 72.

Senior Sarah Johnston, meanwhile, recorded only one par on the front and had four of her seven birdies on the day to make the turn at plus two. The par three 15th hole continued to bedevil the senior, who made a double-bogey five on Friday, but got into the clubhouse with a 74 for the round. Furman freshman Monique Gesualdi rounded out the Lady Paladin scorers with an 81, while Connor Atkinson, a sophomore from Charleston, S.C., was the non-counter with an 83.

In all, the Lady Paladins recorded 13 birdies and an eagle on the day at the 6,215-yard, par 72, Robert Trent Jones designed course.
