NCAA PLAY SUSPENDED WITH FURMAN AT FIVE OVER ON THE DAY

AUBURN, Alabama -- Furman’s 24th-ranked Lady Paladin golf team will complete round two of the NCAA Championships on Thursday, after play was suspended for a dangerous situation on Wednesday and did not resume before darkness interfered.

When play ended the Lady Paladins were at plus five for the day and 19-over for the tournament, which leaves Furman tied for 10th with Texas. The Longhorns were also unable to complete round two.

Furman senior Sarah Johnston was on her 14th hole (No. 5) when the horn sounded. Johnston stands at plus three, despite an eight on the difficult par three 15th hole. Freshman Theresa Paik is one-under after 14 holes, while Monique Gesualdi is plus four after 14. Freshman Jenny Suh made a birdie three on the par four sixth hole minutes before the horn sounded and went into the delay at one-under with three holes left. Sophomore Connor Atkinson also has three holes to finish and is five over on the day, following two consecutive bogeys.

The second-ranked Bruins of UCLA lead the NCAA Championship after a five-under 283 on Wednesday, while top ranked Duke is one stroke behind following a second round 284.

The Lady Paladins will complete round two at 7 a.m. on Thursday prior to the start of the third round. Furman will tee off for the third round beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the first tee. The fourth and final round of the National Championship is slated for Friday at the 6,215-yard Grand National Lake Course.
