Charleston, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin golf team is in third place after opening the 2003-04 season on Monday with rounds of 294-300 in the College of Charleston Cougar Classic at Yeaman's Hall. Furman is five shots off the lead held by Notre Dame and Miami, two teams that are tied at 589.

Sophomore Connor Atkinson (Charleston, S.C.), freshman Jenny Suh (Fairfax, Va.), and senior Sarah Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) are all tied for ninth at 148 after the first two of three rounds. Atkinson carded a pair of 74s while Suh shot 72-76 and Johnston recorded a 75 followed by a 73. Freshman Monique Gesualdi (St. Augustine, Fla.) is in 21st at 150 (73-77), while sophomore Haley Gildea stands 41st after two 78s on Monday.

The final round of the Cougar Classic is slated for Tuesday at the 6,026 yard, par 72 Yeaman's Hall, and will be broadcast from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
