JOHNSTON LEADS LADY PALADINS TO FIRST ROUND 306 AT BRYAN NATIONAL


GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Furman senior Sarah Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) fired a one-under 71 Friday in the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate on Friday, and is tied with three others in third, one stroke off the lead pace set by Purdue’s Beth Hermes and Duke’s Virada Nirapathpongporn. The Lady Paladin team is tied with Georgia for 10th in the field of 18 after a first round 306, 17 strokes off the lead pace of Duke.

In addition to Johnston’s 71, the Lady Paladins counted a 77 by freshman Theresa Paik (Silver Spring, Md.), a 78 by freshman Monique Gesualdi (St. Augustine, Fla.), and an 80 by freshman Jenny Suh (Fairfax, Va.). Sophomore Connor Atkinson (Charleston, S.C.) was the non-counter on the day after an 83 at the 6,074 yard, par 72 Bryan Park Champions Course.

Round two of the Bryan Park Collegiate is set for Saturday, with the final 18 holes scheduled for Sunday.
