FURMAN GOLFERS FINISH FIFTH AT SEASON-OPENING LSU INVITATIONAL


BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- The Furman womenıs golf team opened the 2004 spring season with a fifth-place showing at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic. The Lady Paladins shot 310-308-304 to finish at 922, 19 strokes behind the victorious Tar Heels of North Carolina and seven strokes out of fourth.

Senior Sarah Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) fired rounds of 80-74-71 to finish sixth at 225 in the individual standings, while freshman Monique Gesualdi (St. Augustine, Fla.) took 17th with rounds of 78-75-76 (229). Freshman Jenny Suh (Fairfax, Va.) fired 76-78-77 for a three-round 231 and 21st-place showing, while Theresa Paik (Silver Spring, Md.) finished 36th with rounds of 76-81-80 and Tiarna Harman (Greenville, S.C.) finished 66th after recording 85-81-81 at the 6,265 yard University Club.

The Lady Paladins continue their spring season this weekend at the Lady Gamecock Classic, March 12-14, at the University Club in Blythewood, S.C.
