Jackson Paces Lady Paladins to Sixth Place After First Round of the Vanderbilt Classic

Franklin, Tenn. -- The Furman Lady Paladin golf team fired a two-round total of 610 to place fifth after the first day of the Mason Rudolph Championships at the Legends Club of Tennessee.

Senior Brandi Jackson (Belton, S.C.) led the Lady Paladin effort with a two-round score of three over par. Jackson, a finalist at the U.S. Women's Amatuer in August, shot a first round 74 and second round 73 on the first day of the two-day event. The defending Southern Conference champion is in a tie for third heading into Tuesday's final round in Franklin, Tenn. Arizona's Erica Blasberg (72-69=141) currently holds the lead and a four stroke advantage over Vanderbilt's Courtney Wood.

Furman's Leigh Turner and Cimmie Shahan shot identical two-round total of 152 and are in a tie for 17th entering the final round.

The Lady Paladins (309-301=610 +34) are 27 strokes off the pace set by Arizona, but only five behind third place Tennessee.

Tuesday's final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
