JACKSON WINS QUARTERFINAL U.S. AMATEUR MATCH ON 20TH HOLE; ADVANCES TO SEMI'S

SCARBOROUGH, N.Y. -- Furman golfer Brandi Jackson, a rising senior from Belton, S.C., and the reigning Southern Conference Champion, defeated Mollie Fankhauser of Columbus, Ohio, on the 20th hole of match play Thursday at the U.S. Amateur Championship, to advance to the semifinals, slated for Friday at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

Jackson carded an even-par four on the 20th hole of competition (#2), while Fankhauser bogeyed, to win the match that was all square after the standard 18 holes. With the victory, Jackson earned a 10:15 a.m. Friday tee time with Maru Martinez of Venezuela in the U.S. Amateur semifinals.

Despite its storied women's golf history, Furman has had just one past U.S. Amateur Champion on its rosters. LPGA Hall of Famer Beth Daniel, one of Furman's most successful professional golfers, won the Am in 1975 and again in 1977.
