SCARBOROUGH, N.Y. -- Rising Furman senior Brandi Jackson (Belton, S.C.) moved one step closer to the U.S. Amateur Championship on Thursday, defeating Vikki Laing of Scotland 2 up to advance to the quarterfinals, which are slated for Thursday afternoon.

Jackson was three up on Laing going into 16, but the finish was dramatic. Jackson parred the par three 16th hole, but a Laing birdie cut the lead to 2 up. Finally, on the 18th, Jackson made par, while her Scottish opponent bogeyed to decide the match at 2 up.

With the victory over Laing, Jackson advanced to Thursday afternoon's quarterfinal match play round, and will face Mollie Fankhauser of Columbus, Ohio in a 1:20 p.m. contest at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, N.Y.
