JACKSON ADVANCES TO THIRD ROUND (ROUND OF 16) OF U.S. AMATEUR MATCH PLAY; PERRI ELIMINATED

SCARBOROUGH, N.Y. -- Furman golfer Brandi Jackson, a rising senior from Belton, S.C., and the reigning Southern Conference Champion, defeated Danielle Downey of Spencerport, N.Y., 4 and 3 Wednesday afternoon to advance to the round of 16 in the U.S. Women's Amateur at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, N.Y. Jennifer Perri, a teammate of Jackson's and a 2002 Furman graduate, was eliminated Wednesday afternoon 6 and 4 by Shayna Miyajima or Wailuku, Hawaii.

Jackson will face Vikki Laing of Scotland Thursday at 8:10 a.m. If victorious, she would also play an afternoon match. Television coverage of the U.S. Women's Amateur begins tomorrow at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
