THREE LADY PALADINS COMPETING AT U.S. AMATEUR

SENIOR BRANDI JACKSON TIED FOR FIFTH

SCARBOROUGH, N.Y. -- Rising Furman senior Brandi Jackson (Belton, S.C.) is tied for fifth at the 102nd U.S. Amateur after the first day's competition at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Scarborough, N.Y. In addition, 2002 graduate Jennifer Perri (Eden Prairie, Minn.) is tied for 13th and Leigh Turner (Alpharetta, Ga.) is 50th entering the second and final day of stroke play.

Jackson, the reigning Southern Conference Champion, fired a one-under 70 and is three strokes off the lead held by Courtney Swaim of Sugar Hill, Ga. Perri, meanwhile, carded an even-par 71, while Leigh Turner fired a four-over 75.

After two rounds of stroke play, the top 64 golfers in the field of 150 will advance to the match play portion of the championship. The first two rounds of match play, consisting of 18holes each, is scheduled for Wednesday.
