FURMAN GOLFERS PLACE FIFTH AT TAR HEEL
CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin golf team fired a final round 316 Sunday to finish sixth at 929 in the Franklin Street Trust Lady Tar Heel Invitational.
Junior Leigh Turner (Alpharetta, Ga.) paced the team on Sunday, carding a four-over 76 to finish 19th with a three-day 231 total. Furman's top finisher on the weekend was junior Brandi Jackson (Belton, S.C.), who carded a final-round 80 to place 16th with a 230 tally. Jennifer Perri (Eden Prairie, Minn.) took 23rd individually after a final-round 79, while Sarah Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) finished 43rd following an 81, and Cimmie Shahan (Spring Grove, Pa.) placed 60th with a third-round 84.
The Lady Tar Heel Invitational was won by the Duke Blue Devils, who posted a three-round 894 total. North Carolina was second at 911 and Vanderbilt was third at 914. The Blue Devils' Kristina Engstrom won medalist honors with a three-round 219.
