FURMAN GOLFERS FIFTH AT LADY TAR HEEL

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin golf team slid three places on Saturday, firing a 313 to fall into fifth at the Franklin Street Trust Lady Tar Heel in Chapel Hill, N.C.

With one round left to play, Furman is at 613 as a team, 15 strokes off the lead held by Duke, and one stroke behind Georgia, which sits in fourth.

The Lady Paladins were paced on Saturday by senior Jennifer Perri, who carded her second consecutive 77 and is in 21st, and Cimmie Shahan, who followed up a first-round 87 with a 77 on Saturday and is 56th in the individual standings. Junior Brandi Jackson (Belton, S.C.), who was one stroke off the lead after a first-round 72, carded a 78 and is in sixth at 150, while Leigh Turner followed up her first round 74 with an 81 and is 23rd. Junior Sarah Johnston was the non-counter on Saturday with an 83, and is 39th overall after shooting a 77 on Friday.

Vanderbilt's Nicky Cutler leads the individual race with rounds of 74-73 to her credit, three strokes ahead of Furman's Jackson. The hosting Tar Heels of North Carolina are second in the team standings at 606, and Vanderbilt is third at 608.

The third and final round of the Franklin Street Trust Lady Tar Heel is slated for Sunday, Oct. 7, at the 6,181 yard, par 72 Finley Golf Course.
