FURMAN GOLFERS SECOND AT LIZ MURPHEY INTERCOLLEGIATE

ATHENS, Georgia -- Furman's Lady Paladin golf team is tied with Florida for second after firing a 301 in round one of the Liz Murphey Intercollegiate, played Friday through Sunday at the University of Georgia Golf Club. The hosting Bulldogs are in first after shooting a 297 on Friday.

Leigh Turner paced the Lady Paladins on day one, carding a one-over 73 to earn a tie for third on the individual leaderboard, two stroke off the lead pace set by Mississippi State's Anna Gertsson. Sarah Johnston, who had 11 stiches removed from her thumb on Wednesday, and senior Jennifer Perri each fired a three-over 75 to stand tied for 10th with two rounds left to play.

Brandi Jackson rounded out the Lady Paladin scorers with a six-over 78, while Cimmie Shahan was Furman's non-counter on the day with an 84.

Round two of the 54-hole Liz Murphey is slated for Saturday at UGA.
