FURMAN'S PERRI TOP AMATEUR AT LPGA'S OLDSMOBILE CLASSIC

EAST LANSING, Michigan -- Jennifer Perri, a rising junior on Furman's Lady Paladin golf team, was the low amateur at the LPGA's Oldsmobile Classic over the weekend, firing rounds of 70-73-71-71, for a three-under 285 and 39th-place finish.

The reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year, Perri was one of just two amateurs to make the cut at the Classic, held annually at the 6,191-yard, par 72, Walnut Hills Country Club. Karrie Webb won the individual title by two strokes over Meg Mallon and the $112,000 first-place purse. Because of her amatuer status, Perri was unable to accept the $4063 won by two other 39th-place finishers.

Perri and the rest of the Lady Paladin golf team begin the 2000-2001 collegiate season Sept. 29 at the Lady Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
