FURMAN IN NINTH AT LIZ MURPHEY
ATHENS, Georgia -- Furman's Lady Paladin golf team is tied with Ole Miss for ninth after firing a 319 following a weather-induced shotgun start in the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Junior Jennifer Perri (Eden Prairie, Minn.) paced the team with a 77 and is in ninth individually. Perri stiarted on hole 12 and posted five consecutive pars before bogeying number 17 and recording a double on 18. She regrouped on the front nine to shoot a two-over 38 and ended her round with three consecutive pars for her five-over total.
Redshirt sophomore Leigh Turner (Alpharetta, Ga.) got off to a promising start for Furman before carding a 79 on the day. Turner began play with a birdie on hole 14 followed by five straight pars before a double-bogey on the par four second hole sent her to one over. Turner had five more pars before doubling the par three eighth and bogeying the par four ninth to shoot a five-over 41 on the front side. Another bogey on the 11th and a double on the 13th led to a backside 38 and her seven-over total for the day. Turner is in 19th in the individual standings.
Furman's third counter on the day was freshman Tiarna Harman (Greenville, S.C.), who carded an 81 with eight bogeys, a double, and one birdie for the round. Harman enter round two in 50th individually, while Sarah Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.), Furman's final counter, is in 55th after a first-round 82. Johnston was just three over on the front side, but carded five bogeys and a double on the backside for a 43. Sophomore Brandi Jackson (Belton, S.C.) was the Lady Paladin non-counter on the day after shooting 41-43 for an 84.
