PALADINS SLIDE TO THIRD AT ADAMS CUP

NEWPORT, Rhode Island -- The Furman golf team led by 11 strokes after two rounds of the Adams Cup of Newport, but Point Judith Country Club proved too much for the Paladins Thursday as they fired 324 to slide into a tie for third with Virginia Commonwealth.

Junior Brian Scurlock, who led the individual leaderboard after day one, carded an 80 to fall into fourth place with a 223 total. Meanwhile Jay Mundy, a freshman from Augusta, Ga., fired 81 and finished seventh with a 225 tally, while Tom Wyatt, playing as an individual, carded a 78 and placed 21st at 235.

Freshman Buddy Davis added an 83 to his two day total to finish 28th with a 237, while Matt Davidson shot 80 and placed 32nd at 238.

Toledo fired a final-round 297 to win the Adams Cup, while Michigan State shot 305 on Thursday to place second at 914.
