FURMAN GOLFERS WIN WOFFORD INVITATIONAL


SPARTANBURG, South Carolina -- Furmanšs Paladin golf team fired a final round 293 at the 6,843-yard, par 72 Carolina Country Club, to win the Wofford Invitational by five strokes over UNC Greensboro, with a three-round 867 total.

Senior Matt Davidson and sophomore T.J. Blandford each fired 215 in the tournament and tied for fourth in the individual standings, five strokes off the winning pace of UNCGšs J.D. Bass. In addition, senior Buddy Davis placed ninth with a three-round 216 tally, while Rob Langley finished tied for 20th at 223 and Shane Birckbichler tied for 26th at 225.

The victory was the second of the spring season for Furman and marks the first time since 1996 that the Paladins have won multiple tournaments in the same season. Furman is in action again April 18-20, when the Paladins compete in the Southern Conference Championships with an NCAA bid on the line.
