PALADINS FINISH SECOND IN ANDREA BROTTO CAVALIER CLASSIC


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia -- Furman’s Paladin golf team carded a final round 298 to finish second in the Andrea Brotto Cavalier Classic, one stroke behind the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington who finished the three-round tournament at 870.

The Paladins were paced on Saturday by junior Rob Langley, who carded a 72 and finished tied for eighth at 218. Sophomore T.J. Blandford, the individual leader after two rounds, carded a 75 to fall into third in the individual standings, one stroke off the winning pace of Andrea Signor of the Italian National Team. The Paladins’ Matt Davidson fired a 77 in the final round and tied for 11th overall at 219, while Buddy Davis recorded a 74 and placed 13th at 220. Sophomore Shane Birckbichler rounded out the Furman effort with a final round 80, and finished 43rd with a 232 tally.

The Andrea Brotto Cavalier Classic was the Paladins’ last tournament of the regular season. Furman, which either won or took second in its last five tournaments, will compete in the NCAA Regionals May 20-22, by virtue on an automatic bid the Paladins received as Southern Conference Champions.
