Paladins Tied Atop Leaderboard After Round Two of SoCon Golf Championships

JONESBOROUGH, TN -- After fighting through gusty winds and somewhat treacherous conditions, the Furman Paladins and Georgia Southern Eagles find themselves tied atop the team leaderboard after second round play Monday in the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championships at the Ridges Golf and Country Club. Furman followed up a day one 285 with a 306 on Monday.

Furman and Georgia Southern both posted overall scores of 591, while Davidson and UNC Greensboro are tied for third at 597. Meanwhile, Chattanooga (601), Appalachian State (603), East Tennessee State (605), Wofford (608), Elon (610) and College of Charleston (613) rounded out the Top 10. “

While Furman head coach Todd Satterfield was not pleased with the effort, he was still happy to be tied atop the team standings. "Obviously, we’ve got to take that as a positive going into the last round even though we didn’t play as well as we’d like," Satterfield said. "Especially on the last few holes, we made a couple of doubles that counted for us. But, as I said, we’ve got to take the positive that we’re still in position to win."

As for the individual competition, ETSU freshman Rhys Davies currently leads at even-par 144. Davies holds a one-stroke advantage over Chattanooga's Matt Brock, Georgia Southern's Aron Price, Furman's Matt Davidson, and Appalachian State's Matt Riddick.

Final round play in the SoCon Championships will begin at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Ridges. Admission is free to the public.
