FURMAN IN SIXTH AT MID PINES INTERCOLLEGIATE; LANGLEY LEAD THE WAY FOR PALADINS

SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina -- Furman's Paladin golf team is in sixth place after two rounds of the Mid Pines Intercollegiate, 13 strokes off the lead held by the University of California.

The Paladins fired rounds of 280-292 at the 6,528-yard, par 72 Mid Pines Golf Course on Monday in the season's opening tournament. The Paladins were paced by Rob Langley, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., who fired rounds of 71-71 and is in 14th with a 142 total. Matt Davidson, a senior from West Windsor, N.J., carded 69-74 and is in 18th at 143. Senior Buddy Davis (Orlando, Fla.) is in 24th after going 70-74, while Noble Judy (Nashville, Tenn.) is 35th following rounds of 70-77. Sophomore Shane Birckbichler (Travelers Rest, S.C.) rounds out the Paladin corps at 150. Birckbichler fired 77-73 on Monday and is 51st in the individual standings.

The third and final round of the Mid Pines Intercollegiate is slated for Tuesday.
