FURMANıS NOBLE JUDY SETS SCHOOL RECORD WITH ROUND OF 62;
PALADINS FINISH THIRD AT 49ER COLLEGIATE BEHIND RECORD TEAM ROUND

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina -- Senior golfer Noble Judy (Nashville, Tenn.) set a new Furman standard on Monday in the second round of the 49er Collegiate Classic, firing a 10-under 62 at the 7,028-yard, par 72 Skybrook Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C., to better by two the Paladin record for a single round set in 1982 by Brad Faxon and tied in 1984 by Jack Kay.

Judy, whose previous best round was 70, laid the foundation for a team round of 271, which is also a new school record, bettering the old mark of 278 that was set and tied by the 1982-83 team. In addition to Judyıs 62, Furman counted a 66 by senior Matt Davidson, a 71 by sophomore Thomas Self (Greewood, S.C.), and a 72 by senior Buddy Davis (Orlando, Fla.) for a 17-under score in Mondayıs second round. Freshman Ben Goforth (Shelby, N.C.) was the non-counter in Furmanıs record round with an 80.

On Tuesday, with the school record under their belt, the Paladins carded a solid 293 and finished in third place with an eight-under 856 tournament total. Davidson, who fired 69-66-73 placed second in the individual standings, nine strokes off the lead pace of Indianaıs Jeff Overton. Judy finished with a 74 and was fifth overall at 210, while Davis carded 74-72-70 to finish 13th at even par 216. Thomas Self and Ben Goforth rounded out the Paladin contingent with final rounds of 78 and 76, respectively, to finish 46th at 226 and 54th at 231.

The Paladins are in action again Oct. 19-20 at the Duke Golf Classic in Durham, N.C.
