PALADIN GOLFERS END FALL WITH 11TH-PLACE FINISH


DURHAM, North Carolina -- The Furman men’s golf team ended the 2003 fall season on a disappointing note Monday, firing a final round 300 to place 11th at the Duke Golf Classic in Durham, N.C., with a three-round 908 total, 40 strokes off the lead pace set by the University of North Carolina.

Senior Buddy Davis (Orlando, Fla.) fired the low round on Tuesday, shooting a two-under 70 at the 7,111-yard, par 72 Duke Golf Club to move into 59th wtih a 232 total. Matt Davidson (West Windsor, N.J.) was the top Paladin finisher at 221, taking 16th with rounds of 73-70-78. Noble Judy (Nashville, Tenn.) followed up Monday’s 75-77 with another 75 and placed 19th with a 227 tally, while Ryan Potter carded 75-81-77 to place 62nd at 233. Sophomore T.J. Blandford (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) rounded out the Furman effort with a 236 total and 68th-place finish.

The Paladins recorded three top 10 showings in five fall tournaments, including third at UNC Charlotte’s 49er Collegiate Classic. The Paladins will open the spring season March 8-9 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
