PALADINS FINISH TIED FOR SIXTH AT MID PINES INTERCOLLEGIATE

SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina -- The Furman men's golf team fired a final-round 291 to move up the leaderboard from eighth into sixth Tuesday at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate. Furman finished the Mid Pines Intercollegiate tied with Central Florida with a three-round 881 total.

Furman shot 292-298 on Monday, then came back Tuesday with the three-over team score to finish at plus 17 for the three rounds. The Paladins were led on the day by freshman Jay McKnight (Bluffton, S.C.), who carded a career-low 71 over the 6,528-yard, par 72 course. Noble Judy (Nashville, Tenn.) was the Paladins top finisher, taking 18th with a three-round 219 total, while McKnight finished 20th at 220, Buddy Davis (Orlando, Fla.) placed 27th at 222, David Sligh (N. Augusta, S.C.) took 38th at 225, and redshirt freshman T.J. Blandford (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) finished 45th with a 228 total.

The Mid Pines Intercollegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro, was won by California, which posted a three-round 853 tally. East Carolina finished second at 866, Wichita State was third at 871, VCU finished fourth at 872, and Louisville rounded out the top five at 873.
