FURMAN GOLF IN FIFTH AT MID PINES

SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina -- Furman's Paladin golf team opened the 2002-03 season on Monday with a first-round 292 at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate. The Paladins are tied for fifth with Louisville, 10 strokes off the lead held by California.

Senior David Sligh (N. Augusta, S.C.) and junior Buddy Davis (Orland, Fla.) each fired an even-par 72 and are tied for 14th, while redshirt sophomore Jay McKnight (Bluffton, S.C.) carded a 73 and is in 20th. Senior Noble Judy (Nashville, Tenn.) rounded out the Paladin scorers with a 75, while redshirt sophomore T.J. Blandford (Paradise Valley, Ariz.)carded a 77 in his first collegiate competition.

The Mid Pines is being competed at the 6,528-yard, par 72 Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
