FURMAN GOLFERS TAKE SIXTH IN SPRING OPENER


BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Furmanšs Paladin golf team carded rounds of 295-290-298 to finish sixth in a field of 18 at the Louisiana State Spring Invitational, with a three-round 883 total. The host Tigers of LSU won the Invitational title with an 868 tally, while Jacksonville State took second at 873 and College of Charleston finished third at 875. Redshirt freshman

Shane Birckbichler of Travelers Rest, S.C. paced the Paladins and finished fourth individually with rounds of 72-72-71 at the 7,190-yard, par 72, LSU University Club. JuniorNoble Judy (Nashville, Tenn.) finished 16th with a 220 total, while Buddy Davis (Orlando, Fla.) placed 36th at 224. David Sligh (N. Augusta, S.C.) tied for 77th with a three-round 232 total, while sophomore Rob Langley (Atlanta, Ga.) rounded out the Furman lineup in 91st, with a 235 sum.

The Paladins will compete next March 10-11 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
