SATTERFIELD ADVANCES TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH FIFTH-PLACE

SHOWING IN REGIONAL

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia -- On Saturday, Furman junior Kirk Satterfield became the first Paladin to earn an individual bid to the NCAA Golf Championships since 1989, when Todd White earned a berth to the tournament at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.

Satterfield , who entered the final round at two-under for the tournament, fired a career-low 65 for a three-round 207, and fifth-place individual showing. Satterfield started on number 10 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf and Country Club, and recorded eight consecutive pars before eagling the par five ninth hole. On the front side, Satterfield scored birdies on the first two holes, pars on three and four, and more birdies on five, six, and seven. He ended the round with a pair of pars to hold onto his seven-under status.

"Kirk and I are very excited," said coach Todd Satterfield. "He finally saw that he can play with anyone in collegiate golf. Hopefully we can continue this good play at Duke."

Satterfield will compete for the NCAA Division I golf title May 30-June 2 at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
