SATTERFIELD FALLS OUT OF FIELD WITH 78

DURHAM, North Carolina -- Kirk Satterfield's bid for a national championship ended Thursday, when a second round 78 pushed the Furman junior to 10-over at the NCAA Division I Golf Championship, putting him on the wrong end of the cut that shrinks the field from 30 teams and six individuals to 15 teams and nine singles.

Satterfield recorded eight bogeys and just two birdies on Friday. After starting on the back nine, he turned at four over, but birdied two of the first three holes on the front to stand at plus two after 13. Satterfield ended with bogeys on four of the last five to shoot a six-over 78 at the Duke Golf Club. His 10-over total put him 130th in the field of 156 golfers, nine strokes off the cut line of one-over.

Entering the third of four rounds Arizona leads the team race, while the Wildcats' Ricky Barnes is in first individually with an 11-under 133 total for two days.

Satterfield was the first Furman linkster to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual since 1989, when Todd White also fell to the cut after two rounds.
