SIX PALADINS NAMED
ALL-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior placekicker Danny Marshall and junior linebacker Mike Killian headline a list of six Furman Paladins who today were named to the Southern Conference head coaches all-league team.

Marshall and Killian were Furman's only first team all-league selections. Named to the second team were sophomore offensive guard Clayton Dyson, junior linebacker Cedrick Ritter, junior cornerback T.J. Wilson, and junior safety Cam Newton.

Marshall converted a league high 16-of-20 field goals, paced the conference in kick scoring with 79 points, and finished his career as the SoCon's all-time kick scoring leader with 312 points. Killian, meanwhile, topped the conference with 134 tackles.

Dyson was Furman's only all-conference pick on offense even though the Paladins ranked second among league schools in total offense (384.9 ypg). Senior tailback Hindley Brigham ranked third among league rushers with 1,042 yards and averaged an impressive 5.9 yards per carry but failed to earn selection by league coaches.

Furman's lone first team selection on defense (Killian) proved somewhat surprising considering the Paladins led the league in total defense (272.5 ypg) by a sizable margin and also ranked first in the conference in scoring defense (14.1 ppg), pass defense (132.8 ypg), and pass efficiency defense (97.51 rating).

Furman, which finished 6-5 overall this year and 4-4 in league play, closed its season last Saturday with a 63-21 win at Chattanooga.
