FURMAN'S FREEMAN NAMED SOCON
DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman sophomore linebacker William Freeman has been named Southern Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his play in the Paladins¹ 31-17 win over Richmond Saturday.

Freeman recorded a career high 14 tackles and two tackles-for-loss for Furman in his first career start. The Swansea, S.C., product earned the start after senior Keito Whetstone was sidelined with a sprained ankle in the Paladins¹ 28-17 loss to Clemson on Sept. 6. He is the second Paladin to garner SoCon defensive player-of-the-week honors this season after free safety Cam Newton was tabbed for his strong play in Furman's 24-7 season opening win over Elon.

Freeman now has 26 tackles on the season for nationally eighth-ranked Paladins (2-1, 1-0 SoCon), who return to action this Saturday against Gardner-Webb in Greenville. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Paladin Stadium.
