DISAPPOINTING MORNING PRACTICE FOLLOWED
BY IMPRESSIVE AFTERNOON WORK AT FURMAN

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After resting his squad with an off Sunday, Furman head coach Bobby Lamb put his team through a pair of Monday practices that netted little progress in the morning but solid work in the afternoon session.

“We were pretty sloppy in the morning,” said Lamb. “It took us a while to get going, and even after we went to some 11-on-11 work, I was not impressed with our effort. In the afternoon I thought had a lot more energy and got after it pretty good.”

Furman’s afternoon practice included extended work on option offense and defense.

“We really concentrated on the option game on both sides of the football, and I was pleased with what I saw. That will help us down the road.”

Earning Lamb’s praise on Monday was projected starting quarterback Bo Moore, who struggled in Saturday’s scrimmage where he completed only 5-of-10 passes for 64 yards and two interceptions.

“I thought Bo had a very solid day today after a tough scrimmage on Saturday. He made some good decisions for our offense and executed well.”

Also gaining mention Monday was sophomore wide receiver Brian Stone, who joined the team in the spring after spending the 2002 season at Florida.

“Brian Stone keeps making plays for us at wide receiver, and he made a bunch today. I don’t think he’s dropped a ball since he’s been on campus.”

Defensively, Lamb singled out the play of junior middle linebacker Mike Killian and also expressed relief after sophomore defensive lineman Justin Porter was sidelined with an injury but not the degree of seriousness as first believed.

“I thought Mike had a solid day, scraping and making some big plays on the option. Justin was playing really well before he got hurt, but the reports now is he has a bruised thumb after we first thought he may have broken his hand. That’s good news.”

Furman will practice once on Tuesday beginning at 2:30 p.m.
