FURMAN TO INDUCT FIVE INTO
ATHLETICS HALL-OF-FAME

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A pair of football and golf standouts and one of the greatest soccer players in school history have been selected for induction into the Furman Athletics Hall-of-Fame, Paladin Club director Ken Pettus announced today.

All-South Carolina offensive tackle Jack Summers '46, All-America linebacker Kota Suttle '93, All-America golfer Jen Hanna '98, and four-time All-Southern Conference linkster Todd White '90 will be enshrined along with All-America soccer defender Pete Santora '98.

Induction ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30 at 5:00 p.m. in Timmons Arena prior to the Paladins' home football game against Elon. Tickets to the dinner and ceremony are $10 and can be purchased by calling the Paladin Club at (864) 294-3469.

JEN HANNA '98 -- Golf (1995-98)...Solon, Ohio...four-year letterwinner...1998 NGCA All-America (1st team)...1998 Edna Hartness Female Athlete of the Year...1995 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and SoCon Player of the Year in '96 and '98...three-time all-conference...played in three NCAA Championships with a top finish of 36th at the '97 event in Columbus, Ohio (team finished 6th, 13th, and 16th)...set Furman season stroke average record (73.63) during 1997-98 campaign...currently member of LPGA Tour...resides in Greenville, S.C.

PETE SANTORA ¹98 -- Men's Soccer (1994-97)...defender...four-year letterwinner...four-year starter...first team NSCAA All-America selection in 1996 and in '97 (was the first 1st team All America in Furman soccer history)...Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year in 1997...NSCAA All-South Region selection in 1995 (3rd team), '96 (1st team), and '97 (1st team)...participant in the 1997 Umbro Select All-Star Game...three-time all-conference selection -- 1994, 1996, 1997...named to the SoCon All-Tournament Team in 1995...two-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll member...scored 12 goals and recorded nine assists for 33 points over his career as a defender...team posted three conference regular season and three tournament championships during his tenure, including wins over Louisville, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida International, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt...1996 squad finished season ranked 16th in the nation...1997 team finished 19th nationally...following graduation played two seasons of professional A-League soccer with the Albuquerque Ghekos and Jacksonville Cyclones....currently resides in Atlanta, Ga., where he is the founding partner of Nacional, LLC, a national soccer camp organization.

JACK SUMMERS '46 -- Football (1941, '42, '46)...Lexington, N.C....offensive guard/tackle...three-year letterman...first team All-South Carolina selection and honorable mention All-Southern Conference/All-America in 1942 before having career interrupted by WWII....served in Army Air Corps before returning to Furman for 1946 season...'42 Furman team went 3-6 against rugged schedule that included a 6-0 win over South Carolina...lost to Virgina Tech (7-6), Wake Forest (14-6) and Clemson (12-7)...also lost to Georgia, Tennessee, and Miami...'46 team played Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson, and Georgia Tech, among others, when Southern Conference included many present members of the SEC and ACC...participated in 1946 Blue-Gray All-Star Classic...following graduation served as head football coach at Fountain Inn (1947-48), Cheraw (1949-55), and Sumter (1956-60)...served as elementary school principal in Sumter from 1960-64 and assistant superintendent of School District 17 (Sumter City Schools) from 1964-80...died May 28, 1980.

KOTA SUTTLE '93 -- Football (1989-92)...linebacker...LaFayette, Ga....four-year letterman and starter...American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Sports Network first team All-America (1992)...Associated Press second team All-America (1992)...two-time first team All-Southern Conference (1990 & '91)...named Furman Freshman-of-the-Year in 1989 after totaling 134 tackles and helping pace Paladins to 12-2 record, conference title, and NCAA I-AA semifinal playoff appearance...tallied 65 tackles (despite injuries) on 1990 Furman squad that went 9-4, won league championship, and advanced to NCAA I-AA quarterfinal playoff round...led Furman in tackles in 1991 (144) and 1992 (151)...served as team co-captain for 1992 campaign...team's four-year record during tenure was 34-15...ranks as Furman's all-time leading tackler (489)...accorded Furman's Defensive (MVP) and Iron Horse Award in 1992...currently practicing law in Atlanta, Ga., as partner of Suttle and Gardner.

TODD WHITE '90 -- Men's Golf (1987-90)...Spartanburg, S.C...four-time All-Southern Conference selection and team MVP...honorable mention All-America selection in 1989...won four individual tourament championships during his career, including 1988 Wofford Invitational and '88 Southern Conference Championship and 1989 and '90 Furman Intercollegiates...member of '88 Southern Conference championship team...participated in 1989 NCAA Tournament and NCAA East-West Team Matches...honorable mention All-American selection in 1989...ranks third on Furman's career stroke average chart with a 73.85 mark...won 1990 South Carolina Amateur and 1991 state amateur match-play championship....1995 United States Open participant...currently teaching at Dorman High School in Spartanburg, S.C., where he also serves as golf coach.
