FURMAN's MAYS RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman football player Brandon Mays has been released from the hospital and has returned home to Arden, N.C., following recent surgery for ulcerative colitis, the school's head athletic trainer Phil Hedrick said Wednesday.

Mays, a redshirt freshman tailback who had a portion of his intestines removed during surgery on Oct. 30, was hospitalized for three weeks at Greenville's St. Francis Hospital prior to his release earlier today.

A former standout at T.C. Roberson High School, he saw reserve action in the first four games of the 2002 season, rushing 18 times for 96 yards while also working on special teams. His last action came in Furman's 55-28 win over VMI on Sept. 28.

Mays' school plans and football future were unclear as of Wednesday afternoon according to Hedrick.
