SOCON PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK HONORS

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman cornerback Rodney Johnson has been named Southern Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week and linebacker William Freeman tabbed the league's freshman-of-the-week, it was announced today.

Johnson, a senior from Marion, N.C., tallied five tackles and an interception, which he returned 26 yards, in the Paladins' 35-7 triumph over Chattanooga. Johnsonıs interception ‹ his sixth of the season ‹ set up a third quarter touchdown that gave Furman a 21-7 lead.

Freeman, a redshirt freshman from Swansea, S.C., tallied three tackles and a sack for a Paladin defense that notched three sacks and limited Chattanooga to only 219 yards in total offense.

Ranked sixth in this weekıs Sports Network NCAA I-AA poll, Furman (8-3) plays Villanova this Saturday in NCAA I-AA first round playoff action in Villanova, Pa. Kickoff is set for Noon.
