FURMAN FOOTBALL TO MAKE
FIVE TV APPEARANCES IN 2002

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman Paladins football program will make five television appearances this fall, school athletics director Dr. Gary Clark announced Friday.

Three games will be carried by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and two will be televised by Fox Sports Net South. The five regular season broadcasts are the most ever by Furman.

"We are thrilled our football team will be making five television over both CSS and Fox Sports Net South," said Clark. "We believe these broadcasts will help capture the excitement surrounding our program under new head coach Bobby Lamb, and we appreciate the willingness and interest of both CSS and Fox to work with us."

"We are excited about our association with Furman football and are confident our subscribers will enjoy the seeing Paladin football this fall," said Mike Sheehey, CSS vice president and general manager.

Furman's 2002 season opening contest against Vanderbilt on Sept. 7 will be televised live by CSS in the *Greenville market only. Contests against The Citadel on Oct. 19 and East Tennessee State on Oct. 26 will be carried by CSS to its entire network, reaching over 3.1 million subscribers in nine southeastern states.

Clashes against Appalachian State on Oct. 12 and Georgia Southern on Nov. 9 highlight Furman's two appearances on Fox Sports Net South, which includes nine million homes in seven southeastern states.

The Furman-Vanderbilt game pits the Paladins against a Commodore team under the direction of Bobby Johnson, who last year concluded an eight-year tenure as head coach of a Furman program that, in all, he served for 24 seasons. It will mark Furmanšs first clash against an Southeastern Conference foe since 1990.

Chuck Hussion, the voice of the Furman Paladins, will deliver play-by-play on the three CSS broadcasts, and joining him with analysis will be former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman John Davis, former Furman offensive lineman Ed Patterson, and veteran sideline reporter Gordon Higgins.

Furman returns 11 starters off a 2001 team that posted a 12-3 record, claimed a share of the Southern Conference championship, and finished as NCAA I-AA national runnerup.
