FURMAN ROUNDS OUT FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
WITH NOV. 24 GAME VERSUS PRESBYTERIAN

GREENVILLE -- The NCAA I-AA fourth-ranked Furman Paladins football team, which over the past two weeks had been attempting to add an 11th game to its 2001 schedule, will play Presbyterian on Nov. 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Paladin Stadium, it was announced today by athletic director Gary Clark.

"We're pleased to be able to reschedule an 11th game and look forward to hosting Presbyterian and renewing our series with them," Clark said in making the announcement.

Furman, which holds a 36-11-1 series advantage over PC, defeated the Blue Hose 43-7 in 1992 in the last meeting between the two schools.

The addition of the PC game was made possible after Furman's regularly scheduled away contest against Liberty on Sept. 15 was canceled following terrorist attacks on the United State on Sept. 11 and an NCAA announcement that it would postpone the start of the I-AA playoffs from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1.

According to Clark, Furman had "no interest" in rescheduling Liberty and had been searching for a replacement game in the interim.

Presbyterian was scheduled to only play 10 games this year after Virginia-Wise backed out of a scheduled contest with the Blue Hose.

The addition of PC gives Furman six regular season home games this season.

The Paladins, now 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in Southern Conference action following a 65-7win over VMI, play at Western Carolina this Saturday. A member of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference, Presbyterian is 1-2 on the season following a 28-14 loss to Catawba last Saturday. The Blue Hose defeated I-AA foe Charleston Southern 19-10 on Sept. 8.
