FURMAN'S IVORY FEATURED
IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

GREENVILLE -- Furman senior All-America tailback Louis Ivory is featured in Sports Illustrated Magazine's August 13 College Football Preview issue.

Ivory, the reigning Walter Payton Award winner, is profiled and quoted extensively in the magazine's two-page NCAA I-AA preview story, which also features Georgia Southern running back Adrian Peterson, winner of the 1999 Walter Payton Award.

The article, written by Pete McEntegart and titled Little Giants, summarizes the career exploits of Ivory and Peterson and asserts that standouts are two of the main reasons the Southern Conference is the toughest Division I-AA league. The story also parallels the change in reception and respect accorded Ivory in his hometown of Fort Valley, Ga., prior to and after his Southern Conference record 301-yard, three-touchdown performance in the Paladins' 45-10 win over Georgia Southern last year.

The preview lists Georgia Southern, the defending national champion, as the No. 1 team in NCAA I-AA heading in to the season, while Furman, a 9-3 finisher in 2000, ranks third. The Paladins and Eagles meet in Statesboro, Ga., on Nov. 3.
