FURMAN'S IVORY NAMED SOCON
OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

GREENVILLE -- Furman tailback Louis Ivory has been named Southern Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week for his performance Saturday in the Paladins' 31-13 league win at Western Carolina.

A senior and the reigning Walter Payton Award winner as the top offensive player in NCAA I-AA football, Ivory rushed 22 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns against the Catamounts, who entered Saturday's contest leading the conference in rushing defense.

Ivory scored his two touchdowns on runs covering 3 and 67 yards to help Furman race to a 21-0 first quarter lead. The Fort Valley, Ga., product topped the 100-yard mark on only his fifth carry of the game on the way to his 10th straight 100-yard performance and 24th 100-yard outing of his career. Ivory now has 4,697 career rushing yards, just 49 yards shy of Furman's career rushing record of 4,746 yards currently held by Carl Tremble.

Furman (3-1, 2-0 SoCon), ranked No. 3 in the latest Sports Network NCAA I-AA poll, hosts fifth-ranked Appalachian State (3-1, 2-0 SoCon) this Saturday at Paladin Stadium in a contest televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS). Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
