FURMAN-LIBERTY FOOTBALL GAME CANCELED,
OTHER FU ATHLETIC EVENTS CANCELED OR POSTPONED

GREENVILLE -- Furman director of athletics Gary Clark announced today that Saturday's Furman-Liberty football game has been canceled and all events involving other university athletic teams have been either canceled or postponed.

The football game, originally scheduled to be played in Lynchburg, Va., was canceled after Southern Conference athletic directors decided during a Thursday afternoon teleconference to cancel all athletic events through Sunday.

"As our conference decided and we mutually agreed with Liberty, it was in our best interest not play this weekend," said Clark shortly after the conclusion of the teleconference. "We look forward to completing our schedule the way it is now."

Furman's next football game is scheduled for Sept. 22 against VMI in Greenville.

Other Furman athletic events either canceled or postponed this weekend include cross country, which was scheduled to compete at the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday; women's volleyball, which was scheduled to play College of Charleston on Saturday and The Citadel on Sunday; and women's soccer, which was slated to play at Elon on Sunday.

The Furman men's soccer team's participation in the Butler Classic was canceled earlier.
